Appreciating our Teachers

Member for Manly, James Griffin is encouraging the community to let local teachers know how important they are, and acknowledge the significant impact they have on the lives of our young people.

Mr Griffin said the easing of COVID-19 restrictions and the re-opening of schools provides an ideal opportunity for children, students, families and the entire school community to recognise teachers who have made a difference in their lives.

“Teachers across the Manly electorate have played a pivotal role in the lives of many young people during a difficult year, and we should acknowledge their efforts,” Mr Griffin said.

“Educators adapted quickly when we returned to learning from home and helped ensure the continuity of learning for our children.

“Special mention should also be made of parents and carers, who through COVID-19 found themselves taking on the important role of teachers in a home environment”, Mr Griffin said.

“In this regard I put forward a Notice of Motion in Parliament recognising homeschooling and educators. It reads:

“Speaker, I give Notice that this House:

  • Acknowledges the outstanding efforts of parents, teachers and educators following months of homeschooling.
  • Recognises teachers and principals have gone to great lengths to provide the best learning experience possible for students.
  • Thanks the wonderful parents and carers who have toiled with internet connections and learning programs to ensure young people had the best education through these challenging times.

“Now that schools have re-opened, it is an ideal opportunity for students and their families to express their appreciation of the teaching profession in person.”

“I congratulate all those who have played a key role in educating our children, especially during the COVID-19 restrictions,” Mr Griffin said.
