Northern Beaches Council Benefits from NSW Government's Coastal and Estuary Grants Program

Member for Manly James Griffin today announced that Northern Beaches Council has been awarded two grants under the NSW Government’s Coastal and Estuary Grants Program totalling $115,000.

Northern Beaches Council received funding to complete:

  • An open coast and lagoons scoping study: $65,000, and
  • A coastal zone emergency action subplan: $50,000

“The Northern Beaches coastline is amongst the most dynamic in Australia and these grants will enable Council to take the first steps of the coastal management planning process,” Mr Griffin said.

“This is another example of how the NSW Government is supporting councils and their communities to protect and our local environment.”

Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock said the funding is being provided to assist councils prepare plans to set out long-term strategies for the coordinated management of our coastal environment.

“The planning stream of the Coastal and Estuary Grants Program is the first step in the process of supporting local government to understand their complex coastal and estuarine environments,” Mrs Hancock said.

Funding is being made available under the 2018-19 Coastal and Estuary Grants Program – planning stream.

Councils are encouraged to apply for funding at any time during the financial year to undertake planning and studies.
