Volleyfest Returns to Manly Beach

Thursday, 20 December 2018

Some of the world’s best beach volleyball players will return to the iconic sands of Manly Beach next year, with Volleyfest set to take place from 1–10 March 2019.

The event has been secured exclusively for Manly by the NSW Government. Member for Manly James Griffin said Manly is the place to be in March next year.

“The 2019 event will mark the fifth Volleyfest at Manly Beach and what better place to host Australia’s premier beach volleyball event than the best beach in Australia,” Mr Griffin said.

“March is the perfect time for visitors to plan an extended break in Manly, with the action taking place in the ocean and on the sand as Volleyfest and the Vissla Sydney Surf Pro provide world class sporting entertainment.

“Manly’s stunning beach and coastline along with the many world-class restaurants and cafes and designer shops make it the perfect holiday location, with plenty to see and do.

“2019 will again be another bumper year for major events in Manly.”

The event schedule is as follows:

  • 1-3 March 2019 – Round 3 of the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour
  • 4-5 March 2019 – NSW Beach Volleyball Schools Cup
  • 6-10 March 2019 – Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) Beach Volleyball World Tour 3 Star

The FIVB component will be the highest standard of event in Australia for this Summer and the biggest standalone Beach Volleyball event in Australia since 2008.  It also will be part of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Qualification attracting significantly more exposure and participation than previous events.

NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall said Volleyfest has continued to grow in popularity since the inaugural event in 2016.

“The 2019 festival will provide a significant boost to local accommodation providers, businesses and tourism operators with players and fans travelling from around Australia and the world to enjoy our outstanding hospitality,” Mr Marshall said.

“We expect this year’s event to attract almost 1000 people to Manly for Volleyfest, injecting more than $1 million into the visitor economy.”
