Local Schools Tame the Bear Pit

This week the Bear Pit Public Speaking Competition celebrated its 11th consecutive year at the Parliament of New South Wales, hosted by Member for Manly James Griffin and showcasing the primary schools of the Manly electorate.

Founded in 2009, the public speaking competition is held in local schools from Seaforth to Curl Curl and concludes with the grand final taking place in the Legislative Assembly chamber at the Parliament of New South Wales.

$1.5 Billion in Savings for Families

Households have given the NSW Government’s cost of living programs the thumbs up, with $1.5 billion saved state wide since July last year.

Member for Manly James Griffin revealed the figures today and encouraged families on the Northern Beaches to check their eligibility for savings.

Fire Bug Crackdown: Non-Parole Period Almost Doubles

In a further crackdown on dangerous bushfire bugs, the standard non-parole period for convicted arsonists is set to increase from five years to nine years to help protect lives and property across the Northern Beaches.

Member for Manly James Griffin said the Government had introduced an amendment to implement the recommendation of the Sentencing Council to help ensure those who commit bushfire offences spend more time behind bars.
