CRIMINALISING COERCIVE CONTROL ONE STEP CLOSER

Coercive control is one step closer to being criminalised in Manly, with the NSW Government taking the significant step of releasing a draft bill for public comment ahead of introduction to Parliament.

Coercive control is a form of domestic abuse that involves patterns of behaviour which have the cumulative effect of denying victim-survivors their autonomy and independence. This abuse can involve physical, sexual, psychological or financial abuse.

Member for Manly James Griffin said the NSW Government is consulting on a public exposure draft bill to outlaw coercive control in intimate partner relationships, as part of its ongoing response to the Parliamentary Joint Select Committee on Coercive Control.


DEVELOPING BUSHFIRE-RESILIENT TECHNOLOGY

NSW will cement its place as a world leader in bushfire technology commercialisation and position itself for international export of innovative bushfire solutions under a new NSW Government program.

Member for Manly James Griffin said the Bushfire Commercialisation Fund will support local innovators translate their cutting-edge research into practical solutions that will improve bushfire detection, preparation and response.


PROTECTING CHILDREN IN OUT OF HOME CARE IN MANLY

Checks on adults working with children and young people in residential care will be strengthened in Manly through a significant investment from the NSW Government.

The Residential Care Workers Register is a recommendation by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse that is now in place.

Member for Manly James Griffin MP said the Register will help prevent unsuitable residential care workers moving between service providers undetected.
