T20 World Cup Legacy Inspiring Cricket's Next Generation

Cricket clubs and councils in NSW are set to capitalise on the success of Australia’s recent Women’s T20 World Cup victory with applications open for the final round of the NSW ICC T20 World Cup 2020 Cricket Legacy Fund.

Member for Manly James Griffin said securing funding will help further improve the quality and quantity of cricket facilities and programs across the Northern Beaches.

“Off the back of a fantastic ICC T20 Women’s World Cup which saw Australia defend its title, the Legacy Fund will help inspire another generation of Northern Beaches cricketers,” Mr Griffin said.

Acting Minister for Sport Geoff Lee said the Legacy Fund has already benefited grassroots and community cricket across the state.

“We’ve given more than $4 million to clubs and councils to support 133 projects across NSW during the first two rounds and we’re proud to see the positive impacts on cricket across our state,” Mr Lee said.

“The Legacy Fund invests in all levels of cricket, from girls and boys picking up a bat and ball for the first time, to showcasing our elite players at events across NSW.”

$2 million in funding is available in the final round of the program, established to ensure a lasting legacy after the NSW Government hosts matches across the women’s and the postponed men’s T20 World Cups.

“This boost from the NSW Government will transform the facilities we have for our aspiring cricketers to practice and improve their skills. Youngsters will be able to emulate their stars from the T20 World Cups in first class facilities,” Mr Lee said.

Cricket NSW Chief Executive Officer Lee Germon said the ICC T20 World Cup Cricket Legacy Fund has been a wonderful initiative by the NSW Government to enhance cricket’s standing as Australia’s favourite sport.

“As our game continues to grow, this final round of funding will leave a significant and lasting legacy for cricket in NSW. I encourage you all to consider applying to this final round”, Mr Germon said.

Applications for the Legacy Fund will be open until 24 August, 2020.
