Tafe NSW offers Skills Support to Northern Beaches Small Business'

The NSW Government has made it easier for small businesses in the Northern Beaches to access fee-free and discounted courses to help kick start the COVID recovery, Member for Manly, James Griffin announced today.

Mr Griffin said TAFE NSW has developed a Small Business Recovery one-stop shop for a range of government-subsidised training opportunities to help build the skills and resilience of local small businesses amid the COVID-induced downturn.

“Small businesses are the engine room of the economy, accounting for 97 per cent of Australian businesses,” Mr Griffin said.

“Many of those businesses are now facing an existential threat through no fault of their own and the NSW Government is committed to doing everything possible to ensure business survival and resilience.

“Education and skills are key pillars to the NSW Government’s COVID-19 Recovery Plan and TAFE NSW will play a critical role in helping reskill and upskill the workforce to help create a more sustainable future for small businesses.”

Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education Geoff Lee said the Small Business Recovery package included fee-free and low cost courses in a wide range of areas, including accounting and finance, agriculture, business, engineering and civil construction, community services, nursing and many more.

Mr Lee welcomed the support saying small business was a key driver of innovation, economic growth and local jobs.

“A healthy small business sector strengthens our economy and the fabric of our society,” Mr Lee said.

“Under our Skilling for Recovery program, more than 100,000 NSW residents will have the opportunity to reskill or upskill and take advantage of future job opportunities. This will help support innovation and protect local jobs.”

Minister for Finance and Small Business Damien Tudehope said small businesses around the entire State have been doing it tough during the pandemic, but these courses can assist them through some of these challenges.

“It’s essential we support the small business sector by helping the workforce reskill, retrain and redeploy in a post-COVID economy,” he said.
