Taskforce Meets to Boost Tourism and Manly's Economic Recovery

Member for Manly James Griffin has welcomed the first virtual meeting of the Tourism & Economic Recovery Taskforce in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the summer bushfires.

Mr Griffin established the Taskforce to bring together public and private sector stakeholders across the Manly area in order to provide strategic and practical advice to benefit the local tourism, events and hospitality industry.

“The Taskforce’s membership is made up of an exciting mix of government, NGOs and industry leaders,” Mr Griffin said.

“Alongside representation from Manly’s three major hotels, Manly Business Chamber and Northern Beaches Council, the Taskforce is further bolstered by engagement with Surfing NSW, the NRMA and Facebook.

“Leveraging industry and relationships will be key to achieving tangible results for our tourism, events and hospitality industry that has been doing it tough for almost a year.”

Mr Griffin said the virtual meeting provided the Taskforce members the opportunity to meet in a COVID-Safe manner, establishing the framework for the Taskforce going forward.

“It is clear from our first meeting that providing certainty for both local and tourist trade that visiting Manly, staying at our hotels, eating at our restaurants, can be COVID-Safe.

“I am greatly encouraged by the enthusiasm shown by our Taskforce members and look forward to working with them closely over the coming months.”

Key objectives of the Taskforce over the next 6 months are to:

  • Develop potential recovery initiatives and ideas including the fast-tracking of existing local projects and concepts.
  • Leverage existing and future Government programs and initiatives that focus on tourism, the local economy and practical community support programs.
  • Identify collaboration opportunities between various agencies to revive and reimagine post pandemic projects, events and economic activity.
