FINANCIAL WIN FOR LOCAL SPORTING GROUPS

Member for Manly, James Griffin said the distribution of funding under the 2023/24 Local Sports Grant Program will be a real shot in the arm for local sporting organisations.

“It is terrific to see so many sporting groups bolstered by the Program to the benefit of local sports men and women,” Mr Griffin said.

“A wide and diverse range of sports are covered with Rugby, Bowling, Sailing, Boardriding, Cricket and Triathlon events all receiving funding,” Mr Griffin said.

MANLY MP TALKS THE TALK – AND WALKS THE WALK

Manly MP, James Griffin, is encouraging local schools, parents and students to support Walk Safely to School Day next Friday, 10 May.

Mr Griffin said the national initiative, championed by the Pedestrian Council Australia, aims to encourage children to lead a healthier, more active lifestyle by simply walking at the beginning of the day, at lunchtime and at the end of each day.

“The 25th annual Walk Safely to School Day also coincides with National Road Safety Awareness Week and encourages reduced car-dependency.

“Less motor vehicles can reduce dangerous traffic congestion around schools and helps deliver important environmental benefits.

DOUBLE DEMERITS BEGIN FOR ANZAC DAY

Double demerit points are now in force ahead of ANZAC Day and the end of school holidays. Member for Manly, James Griffin and Shadow Minister for Police, Paul Toole are urging motorists to take extra care when travelling this week.

Double demerits began Wednesday morning, 24 April, at 12:01am and will end at 11:59pm on Sunday 28 April.

Higher fines and double demerit points will apply for offences such as speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, driving under the influence or using a mobile phone illegally.

Member for Manly, James Griffin said safety is the number one priority.

“Every time you get behind the wheel of a car this week, please think of those passengers in the car with you, and other motorists on our roads, so that everyone can reach their destination safely,” Mr Griffin said.
